Linked to the main objective of the project aiming at upgrading the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAP) sector to increase the competitiveness of Egyptian products in international markets, the project is aiming at designing and implementing a National Quality Scheme covering all stages of the supply chain and following international best practices.

Scheme Framework

The scheme includes the following components:

  • Compliance requirements following international best practices and considering national legislations and standards
  • Roles and responsibilities of relevant entities, and procedures for compliance
  • Conformity assessment system, including auditing and testing procedures
  • Operational system for controlling conformity assessment mechanisms
  • Coordination mechanism between relevant public and private entities ensuring effectiveness of scheme implementation
  • Information and knowledge management system

Design and Implementation Plan

  • Establishing the scheme framework with participation of relevant stakeholders
  • Setting the required tools for conformity assessment and certification and labeling system
  • Creating communication and coordination channels between relevant organizations to ensure effective implementation, sustainability and experience exchange
  • Identifying appropriate national and international references for each production stage
  • Supporting involved entities in setting technical requirements following national and international references
  • Establishing relevant technical assistance programmes and outreach mechanisms
  • Initiating awareness and promotion programmes at both national and international levels
  • Designing action plan for implementation including following up activities in coordination with relevant organizations

Technical Support for Supply Chain Members

The project offers different technical support activities for target groups to comply with scheme requirements, including:

  • Gap analysis activities throughout all production stages
  • Training programs, workshops, conferences, field visits, coaching and mentoring activities
  • System reviews and assistance on internal audits

Expected Contribution of Target Groups and Project Partners

  • Availing needed information and supporting the cooperation with project technical support centers
  • Active participation in conferences, seminars, field visits, and training activities provided by the project
  • Supporting the exchange of acquired knowledge and experience with relevant stakeholders
