Linked to the main objective of the project aiming at upgrading the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAP) sector to increase the competitiveness of Egyptian products in international markets, the Technical Assistance Programme is concerned with technology and knowledge transfer, quality compliance, improving production practices, enhancing workers’ skills, and supporting linkages between production facilities and scientific, research and service institutions.


Areas of Technical Assistance

  • Compliance with national quality scheme requirements and with good agriculture and manufacturing practices
  • Advanced production techniques in agricultural operations (seeds, irrigation – fertilization – pest control– harvesting – etc)
  • Processing and manufacturing technologies (drying – extraction – packaging – product handling – etc)
  • Product development opportunities and value addition


Target Groups

Technical assistance is provided to production clusters including growers, local traders, pre-processors, processors, exporters, and service providers, with focus on production areas in Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, and Assyut. Each cluster will have a representative acting as a group leader and focal point to the programme.


Technical Assistance Methods

  • Training Programmes: conducted in training venues equipped with educational media through which specialized technical programmes are provided to improve the competencies of target groups on specific qualifications
  • Filed Visits: through which specialized experts provide practical technical guidance and recommendations to a group of cluster members
  • Informative Seminars: The seminars encompass dissemination of best practices, successful case studies, and techniques that have been successfully applied at national or international levels. It may also include discussion groups for identifying current challenges and opportunities and suggesting practical solutions and recommendations
  • Study Tours: organized to production and service entities, as well as to educational institutions and technology centers inside and outside Egypt. Study tours aim at transferring experiences, techniques, and best practices, whereby the acquired knowledge is disseminated to larger target groups thereafter
  • E-Learning: offering technical programmes covering topics related to production, quality, and business development. Programmes include educational modules, empirical projects, and exams, along with offering interactive communication tools with specialized experts

  • Commitment of cluster leaders to support the implementation of the development programme among all cluster members
  • Cooperation of cluster members with the project team to implement technical recommendations
  • Interaction with project team and providing relevant information to ensure effectiveness of development efforts
  • Active participation in conferences, seminars, field visits, and training programmes
  • Mobilize the technical team of the entity to activate the technical support programme
  • Supporting the exchange of knowledge and experience with relevant stakeholders
